Bread, Beach, Blanket and Bagging

This was the busiest day ever!

Maybe not quite but we bagged up loads of fudge for starters. 40 bags now are officially ready for our little stall on Saturday morning. I figured I wouldn’t get time to do them tomorrow so I thought I’d just get stuck in. I got Toni to help me with the labels while got busy bagging. We got them all packed into boxes for transporting them.

Seb helped get the jewellery together, we are selling costume jewellery. Lots of pretty rings and necklaces. I needed to go through them and decide what we were actually going to bring with us, I also needed to organise little display stands.

Everything will get set up tomorrow evening on preparation for Saturday, the only thing I won’t take until the day is the fudge.

As well as bagging up fudge and my usual school commitment and housework I baked some bread. I got a new cast iron pan for my oven, it’s a two piece reversible set and is known as a Dutch oven. When you bake some types of breads they benefit from being in a Dutch oven as it traps the steam and encourages a great crust. This is new to me, I’ve never owned one before so it’s going to be fun trying it out.

I used my hybrid bread recipe, Cottage Bread and tried it out for the first time. I think the bread turned out really nice, I split the dough into two and made two loaves. Here’s what it ended up like. It’s a pity you can’t taste the bread, you will have to take my word for it that it tastes good.

I also got started on a new blanket. You know I’m trying to get a few baby blankets together for donation. I found this cotton yarn in my stash so I thought I’d give it a go. I will share as I make progress.

To wrap up the day I went for a walk along the shore. The weather isn’t the warmest today, a little dull and a little showery. I took some photos and with the questionable weather the effect is rugged.
