Detox Tea And Yet Another Bake

I bake so much you guys must think I am always eating. I don’t eat everything myself, there’s six in my family plus a couple extras that hang around a lot. I usually have a slice of everything I make and the rest is eaten by everyone else, sometimes I share with neighbours too, sometimes I bake for church coffee mornings or something. If I ate everything I baked I would have a huge issue on my hands.

Despite that I sometimes feel that I get bloated and I know I could lose a couple of pounds, don’t we all 🙄. Someone recommended detox tea to me, claiming they have lost a half a dozen pounds in a couple of weeks. This tea sounds too good to be true if you ask me, but I decided to look anyway. I researched many brands online and discovered that some teas are simply a laxative and it stands to reason that you will lose weight drinking them. I don’t want a laxative tea, I don’t have a big enough desire to put myself through that. So, I plumped for an apparently nice tasting herbal detox tea which is flavoured with spearmint and lemongrass. I’ve opened it, it smells good but I haven’t tried it yet. If it’s any good, or if it’s really horrible I will report back here and let you know how I get on.

Also today we went to the DIY store for some tile cement, a little stone has come off in our shower base and it needs fixing before the rest go the same way. My shower base is actually smoothed pebbles, and it’s been in 12 years. The pebble has come out just where the water always hits the floor, I guess it has just worn away. So while we were there I got other half looking at wallpaper, he’s rolling his eyes now because I just informed him that I’d like the hallway decorated next. I am going to research how to paint pine wood chests of drawers I’d like to make them look vintage and decorate the hallway lemon and white to match. That’s a project I will write about when it happens. I’m open for advice on how to paint furniture so please pass on any tips you might have.

Back on the note of weight loss and detox I baked again – ha ha I am bad. I made Easy Fruit Loaf, it’s my own recipe loosely based and adapted from a couple of banana bread recipes I have tried. This recipe has sort of morphed from one thing into what it is now so it may not be perfect in culinary terms, but rest assured it tastes good. Its so easy to make, literally dump everything into one bowl and mix. I love this sort of recipe, throw together at a moments notice and impress everyone. It’s very tasty when it’s fresh but it’s actually better if left for 12 hours or even 24 hours, I think on the first day it is so fresh it is crumbly a little so if you wanted to butter it you might run into issues.

Easy Fruit Loaf

Recipe makes 1 X 2lb loaf size cake

1.5 cups plain flour

1/4 cup caster sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup melted butter

1/2 cup milk

2 eggs

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons mixed spice

1 1/2 cups of dried mixed fruit

Method

Preheat the oven at 350F/175C

Mix all the ingredients including the dried fruit in a large bowl.

Spoon the mix into a greased loaf tin (or use a liner) and bake for approximately 50minutes.

Your loaf is ready when you stick a cocktail stick in the loaf and it comes out clean.
